Time for an Excerpt – For Witch or For Poorer

Hello, my friends. In two short weeks FOR WITCH OR FOR POORER, book 5 in my paranormal wedding planner series will release.

I’m excited about this book, because it centers around Giz, our tech wizard on the team who has some secrets of his own that he’s been keeping. I’m excited to share his story and happy-ever-after with you.

So to prepare for the upcoming release, I’m sharing an excerpt with you today. Are you ready?

EXCERPT

Giz watched his teammates in amusement.  If anyone saw them now, they would question how the five of them worked for the Tribunal, keeping peace between the various supernatural factions as well as hiding their existence from humans.

They were an interesting bunch. Devin was an elf and their team leader. He had recruited Connor and Jack for the team. They were twin werewolves who had run the Elf Forest as children with wild abandon along with Devin. Devin had also recruited Charlie, a sea nymph and former SEAL for the team. Charlie then dragged Giz on the team after they served together in the Navy. Of course, Charlie was the kick-butt-and-take-names guy, and Giz the backroom tech guy on the SEAL team and, come to think of it, on this team, as well.

Today, Devin had brought the team together for a very important project. One they were failing quite spectacularly at.

“Connor, you’re putting it on backward!” Devin growled.

“No, I’m not. It has to slide up and down in the front.”

“Exactly. Try and slide it.”

Connor pulled on the wood slats and they wouldn’t budge. “Shit.”

“Where did the instructions go?” Jack asked.

“I can’t find them,” Devin said.

Charlie leaned his tall frame down into the large cardboard box, throwing Styrofoam out of the way. “Oh, for Fates sake. There has to be a set of instructions in here somewhere.”

Giz shook his head. How many supernatural did it take to put together a baby crib? Devin and his wife Alex were expecting their first child in a few short weeks. A baby the team and their mates were all anxious to meet. The fact he or she would be the first elf-faerie-human baby, just added more tension for the already nervous father. Not something Giz would be telling Devin anytime soon.

Charlie stood up with a booklet clutched in his hand. “Found it!”

Devin held up his hands as if giving a speech. “Guys, we can’t screw this up. When we bought the crib, Alex asked me if we needed to pay the extra money for assembly.”

“The correct answer should have been yes,” Charlie responded, his lips quirking up into a grin.

“Yeah,” Jack said. “And what’s this ‘we can’t screw this up’ business. It’s not our fault you insisted you could put this together.”

“Do you honestly think Alex is going to let me live this down? And by extension, do you think-” Devin looked at Charlie, “your wife, Sheila.” He turned to Jack, “or your wife, Julia,” and then Devin glared at Connor, “or your mate, Olivia, is going to cut you any slack?”

For once, Giz was relieved he didn’t have a mate. He chuckled and regretted it instantly when four sets of eyes narrowed on him.

“What are you laughing at?” Devin asked.

“Yeah,” Connor and Jack said at the same time.

Charlie waved the instructions at him. “Why don’t you use your magic and put this together, oh wise and powerful warlock?”

Giz’s humor seeped away at the words. He would not be using his magic to put together the crib. Time to deflect. “Do you think Alex would let you live down me using my magic? That’s cheating. Give me the instructions and I’ll tell you doofuses how to put it together the right way.”

They groaned, and he held out his hand until Charlie passed him the booklet. “Quit whining. We have to put the changing table together after this. I would like to finish before midnight.”

They grudgingly got to work after Giz scanned the instructions and had them sort the pieces into piles. Giz was good at schematics and code and all things tech-oriented. The crib started to take shape under his direction. There would be no magical intervention. And he wouldn’t be sharing why.

He barely used his magic now. He relied on it only when absolutely necessary for their job, and more so to detect magic and put a stop to it. He was closer to the four men in this room than anyone else, but he couldn’t bring himself to tell them the truth. Even though they all had their own set of innate powers, magic could be more of a problem than an easy solution.

He could attest to that.

Connor’s phone rang and he checked the screen. “It’s Sully.”

Giz reached for the legs Connor had been holding so Charlie could continue attaching the frame to them.

“What’s up?” Connor said. He listened for a moment and frowned.

Giz hoped nothing had happened with the pack. There had been enough upheaval recently, they didn’t need more drama.

“Yeah, Jack and I will come see you this afternoon,” Connor glanced at Giz. “He’s with me right now. Hold on, I’ll ask. Are you free this afternoon?”

Giz nodded.

“We’ll see you at three.”

“What did Sullivan want?” Jack asked.

“The new head of pack security is putting in some updated security measures. He would like Giz to review them with him.”

“Is there a new threat he’s worried about?” Devin asked.

Connor put his phone back in his pocket. “Nothing specific he said over the phone, but if there is, Jack and I can get it out of him this afternoon.”

Giz didn’t like the nervous ripples running down his spine. His grandmother used to call it his witch sense. He didn’t ignore it since it usually meant something important was going to happen – good or bad – he didn’t know, but what he did know was it couldn’t be ignored.

So what do you think? Is Giz going to end up in trouble???

When magic isn’t so magical.

A lonely wolf. Maeve Callahan has never had a true family to call her own. Recently adopted into the    West Coast pack, she will do anything to stop her past from destroying her newly found brothers. Unfortunately, the evil wolf who raised her and a vengeful coven have other plans. When a warlock is called in to help, Maeve’s instant attraction to him couldn’t be worse timing.

A power-shy warlock. Giz Kelly does not cast spells. Period. His father taught him the hard way that magic can destroy the people you love. But when the supernatural team he works for gets called in to help the pack, he finds himself breaking his vow in order to protect Maeve.

When the coven attacks and lives are at stake, can Maeve and Giz embrace their powers to save the pack and each other? And in doing so realize that love can be the greatest magic of all?

So what do you think???? I love the kitties myself 🙂

“Relationship” is not a four-letter word.

Connor Dawson’s wolf wanted out—bad. But the hairy dude would just have to wait a bit. Lately his animal side had been getting more and more riled up, and nothing seemed to appease him. But then Connor wouldn’t exactly say he had been feeling very appeased lately, either.

It didn’t help that the sun would soon be setting and tonight was a full moon. Unlike the stereotype, werewolves didn’t turn into uncontrollable beasts under the full moon. But the moon did call to his inner Fido rather loudly. And since Connor had a case, Fido needed to chill.

Connor was part of an unofficial law enforcement team tasked with ensuring paranormals didn’t kill each other or, at the very least, didn’t clue humans in to the fact they exist. And while humans thought vamps and werewolves were cool in the Hollywood sense, in reality there were a lot more to keep quiet about—elves, faeries, nymphs, witches, gargantuans, vampires, gargoyles, shifters, scores of demons—the list went on.

Right now, he stood outside a typical house in the San Diego burbs. On the inside, however, typical was not on the agenda. A philandering husband and a pissed-off witch wife made for a volatile combination.

The wife had been turned over to her coven for punishment and the husband to a healer for…well, healing. Now they were left with the cleanup.

Connor opened the door to the team van as his teammate Giz walked out of the house with a box. Smoke wafted lightly from the top. Which made Connor a little twitchy. But Giz insisted he had muted the spell used on the toaster. Since Giz was a techno-guru and a powerful warlock, Connor would take his word for it.

Sparks shot up from the top. On second thought…

“Are you sure you shut down the nastiness?”

“Yes. It won’t hurt you. The spell was designed specifically to attack the husband. You definitely don’t want to cheat on a witch.”

“Female shifters aren’t too keen on adultery either,” Connor said. And he couldn’t blame them. He might like to play the field a bit, but he didn’t get involved with married women. Even he had a conscience.

Giz stashed the box in the van.

Connor shut the door. “This is why I won’t be getting married.”

Giz chuckled.

“What?”

“You won’t be getting married because no woman would have you.”

Connor bristled. “What the hell does that mean?”

“Except for a few supernatural species, most marriages are based on monogamy. Do you need me to define it for you?”

He knew the definition of monogamy. He just never got into a situation where he had to practice it. Relationships were not his modus operandi.

“Very funny. Don’t tell me you’ve been drinking the happily-ever-after Kool-Aid.”

Giz grinned. “It’s hard not to thanks to all our teammates catching the lovebug.”

Lovebug, hell. It was more like love fungus or bacteria, or black mold. Connor and Giz were the only two of their five-man team who hadn’t succumbed. Which was more than fine with him.

Love made his brother and his friends more than a little stupid. And, Connor reluctantly had to admit, a lot happy. But he couldn’t imagine how he would ever find that kind of happiness—not that he was looking. He hoped for their sakes their happiness would last, but he’d never seen love work out over the long haul.

Of course he and Giz were handling this case while his teammates were spending time with their significant others. And after Connor and Giz wrote up their notes to send to the supernatural Tribunal and disposed of the magically toxic toaster, they would go back to the house, where they lived like a couple of overgrown frat boys, and stare at each other over pizza and beer. Which didn’t sound very appealing.

At all.

Nope, on second thought, he needed to go out and find a little no-strings companionship.

Variety—one. Monogamy—zero.

But then he wasn’t one to keep score.

….So. What do you think? I think Connor is going to be a tough nut to crack in the relationship department, don’t you?

I know many of you have been waiting for the next books in this series and so I am giving you not one, but two that will be coming your way this fall.

To kick off the celebration, let’s start with a cover reveal AND a blurb for the book. Check it out below.

For Better or For Wolf

Wolf“Relationship” is not a four-letter word.

Olivia Jennings is all about following the rules. A psychiatrist with a tragic past, she dedicates her life to helping others. Controlling all aspects of her life—especially relationships—protects her battered heart. But when she learns supernaturals exist, her carefully constructed world crumbles. Drawn into counseling a werewolf pack, she butts heads with the ridiculously handsome but infuriating wolf determined to protect her.

Connor Dawson is all about bucking the status quo. He’s not looking for commitment or love. In fact, after being rejected by his pack, he’s certain he’s immune to that particular emotion. But when Olivia inserts herself into wolf business, his hackles stand straight up. No one is more surprised than Connor when their teasing banter turns into serious attraction.

When Olivia and Connor are thrown into the middle of a pack war, things heat up…with an attempted murder, a political power struggle, and their sizzling chemistry. Will this explosive situation finally bring them together—or blow them apart?

So what do you think???

I really loved writing Connor and Olivia’s story and can’t wait to share it with you!!

Checklist Mania is Back!

20150817_143049This past weekend I jokingly posted on Twitter that I needed a checklist to keep track of my checklists. Why, you ask? I’m in the process of preparing for my September release of Sentinel Lost, book 5 in my Mind Sweeper Series and there a lot of little things (and not so little things) to accomplish before then. While editing and cover art are a HUGE parts of the publishing process, there are numerous other steps after these are completed before a book is ready for release.

The books need formatted for digital and print. In other words, they need to be placed into a file format that works on Amazon and B&N and Apple and any other retail site you sell from. I then have to confirm that the formatted files are correct and load them digitally to the retail sites to release for preorders. Then we (me and my imaginary friends) have blog posts and interview posts to write. I have to spread the news of my release somehow, right?

I have to update the retail sites, Goodreads and my own website with information about my series. And let us not forget about reviews, reviews, reviews!

And now that I am five books in, I am starting to strategize more about advertising and using my earlier books to entice sales of my later books…I never thought I would be developing marketing and sales strategies as an author. Silly, silly me!

Sentinel Lost will be released on September 21st. Over the next five weeks I will be posting and marketing and advertising and spreading the overall joy that a new book is ready to join the world. I hope you come along for the ride…

Two Weeks and Counting!

Hello all! I want to wish my US followers a happy Labor Day and all my other followers a happy Monday! Hope you’re enjoying the day (or night) wherever you are.

As for me, I have had a busy holiday weekend. I am gearing up for my release which is two short weeks away. Wow. I can’t believe it’s finally here. Last week, I gave you a recap from my cover reveal. This week, I thought I would let you know what else I’ve been up to. This has been a learning experience for me and I promised to share what I learned, so here goes…

I have been making some changes to my website. My banner at the top has changed as has the site color. I have also changed my Facebook banner and have updated my Twitter background as well. My goal is to offer a consistent feel or brand.  Since red will be an ongoing theme for all my book covers in the Mind Sweeper series, it made sense to fashion my social media after that color. And since my heroine is a rather bold character, I think red was the perfect choice to represent her.

I have added a picture of my book on my website that you can click on and preorder the book from Amazon. On my ‘books’ tab, I have also set up a preorder link for Kobo, and hope to have one soon for iTunes. Of course, I have my new release newsletter that readers can sign up for to find about my releases. If you didn’t pick up on this…it is a not so subtle hint to my followers to sign up for my release newsletter 😉 All of these steps are part of making it easy to find me and my books. In this immediate gratification world, if people cannot find things in one or two clicks, they lose interest. And we don’t want that!

I have also added the ability to tweet and like and pin my posts. And my Goodreads page also has a link to my blog posts as well. It’s all about connecting people to social media in the easiest way possible.

And then there are the graphic teasers…I have been getting some great feedback on them and no worries, they will keep coming over the next two weeks. I’ll have another one for you tomorrow. I had a great time picking out the right quotes to share with you. Hopefully it’s building anticipation for the book. The teasers are on my website, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Again…communicate and connect…communicate and connect…

I am also preparing for my blog release tour and have been sending out my blog posts to the sites who will be participating. I will share more on that next Monday and provide you details on what’s to come.

And finally, I have been working on my next books. Because while all of this hoopla is happening, I also have to finish the edits and covers and proofs and formatting on my next books to get them ready for their October and November release. From all of my research, the best thing that an indie published author can do to build their readership is to have more than one book available. So behind the scenes I am editing and working with the wonderful team I have found to make my books something that you all will want to read.

So now that my holiday weekend is coming to a close, I wanted to share all that has been happening this week. Communicate and connect…oh, enough already…you get the idea!
